About The Bead People ™
The Bead People began with my love affair with beads. I love beads, and I love making Bead People! For over eighteen years the colors, shapes, materials, textures and sizes of beads have inspired my imagination, and the power of individual beads continues to call out to me, in the form of a new companion-creature, at once alien and familiar…a new Bead Person! Humans have been making dolls since prehistoric times, and infusing them with personality and character traits so they can serve spiritual needs, as well as the needs for companionship and play.
The Bead People™ brings the wisdom of over 40,000 years of human-bead contact and the knowledge and beauty of bead-using and doll-making cultures from all over the globe into the palm of my hand. Each is patiently designed and handmade to ensure that the beauty and power of every bead is enhanced by its connection with the others, and that they work together seamlessly to allow people to see and feel aspects of themselves, and others, in each Bead Person. Made from natural materials such as stones, gemstones, shells, bone, and horn, to metals and precious metals, to glass beads (first made by humans about 4,000 years ago) The Bead People™ hold a very special magnificent and wild place, for me, in the artistic, spiritual, communicative, and commercial traditions of bead and doll creations.
The Bead People™ are sturdy and flexible. They can be posed and shaped gently until they express just the right movement or feeling. Each has a gold-filled jump ring that allows you to wear it as jewelry or to hang as an ornament (from your holiday tree, or in a window); they can be pinned to clothing or accessories, they can enliven your dinner table… the possibilities are endless! I use only beads and craft wire; no glues or other potentially toxic materials.
For many years I made Bead People as gifts for my own circle of family and friends, as an inspiration to uplift, soothe, heal, protect, and transform. The Bead People™ have now reached the age of eighteen years, and it is time to make their way into the world, straight from my imagination into your heart.
